Invited by extreme sports photographer Ian Edmonson, Patrick Rebstock, Ian Alldredge, James Ropner, Bear Karry and friends jump at the chance to kite surf on one of Scotland's most remote islands. Edmonson a Uk photographer, who runs http://www.expix.co.uk/, braves his camera to the elements to explore North and South Uist and shoot the kitesurfers. The film was shot by Greg Huglin, James Ropner, Patrick Rebstock The Uist, in the Hebredian Island chain is one of the best places to kitesurf we have seen, getting huge surf and wind from every direction practically year round. Funded by the local wind power company the crew arrive on the island by ferry to a warm welcome by all of its local peoples. The trip was a combination of exploration of unridden waves, extreme weather and teaching the local kids about kite surfing. Patrick Rebstock and James Ropner did an event with all the kids from the local school, showing them how to kitesurf right in the backyard of their school. Plans were made with the PE teacher to get him set up kiting and ready to teach so he could continue to help the students that wanted to try kitesurfing. It was a really special event to get to share our sport with these kids, i hope we made a positive impression and judging by the mile wide smiles i would say it was a huge success. Special thanks to FAFA and PA Ropner and the rest of the Ropner Family for making this trip possible.
Just in time for the holidays the LivingTheDream crew bring you some action from across the pond. Portugal marks the first stop for the LivingTheDream Euro Tour and Quiksilver surfer Patrick Rebstock. When it comes to roadtrips this one takes the cake with over 10,000 kilometers driven, 13 countries visited, a few injuries, and endless good times. The search for waves begins in Portugal after a stunning drive from Austria. Starting in the Alps in a air cooled Porche Turbo with our friends Hannes and Martin we raced along the gorgeous mountains ending where land meets the Atlantic in a beach truck generously provided by Bagjump.com. With James Ropner and Alli Pareti as companions Patrick Rebstock explores the beautiful coastline of Portugal. Life on the road proves to be full of adventure for these three as they cross the European landscape. The LTD Crew was lucky to meet up with Ricardo Mia, a local Portuguese surfer that showed them the best conditions and spots on the west coast. It was people like Ricardo and the rest of the awesome friends we made that made this trip so special. Thanks Ricardo we wouldn't have caught half as many waves or had nearly as much fun if it wasn't for you. The Portugal stop is just the first of many and the LivingTheDream Crew will defiantly be back across the pond for some more action in the future. Thanks for watching happy holidays and stay tuned for Scotland the next LivingTheDream Tour stop. The 2014 T-REX was developed for a new breed of riders focusing on aerial tricks and fun, poppy changes in direction. This unique, progressive shape is trending in the surf industry with the top pro riders. Patrick Rebstock prefers this next generation surf shape because it makes it easier to spin and flip tricks with less swing weight and has a tight precise feel to blast upwind. This February marked a significant step forward for kitesurfing, for the first time in the history of kiteboarding a partnership was forged between a kiteboarding brand and the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) to help showcase that potential on a large scale. Thanks to Slingshot Australia, Kitesurfing was present as a demonstration sport at the SURF FEST event, an ASP 6 star World Qualifying Series (WQS) held in Newcastle Australia. This was significant step for Kite surfing because it gave the “Surf Industry”, pro surfers and the public an opportunity to see the potential of a kite to surf. A group of Slingshot Australia’s team riders along with Slingshot Elite team rider Patrick Rebstock, did a 20 min demonstration that took place between the open men’s second semi-final and final, a perfect 20 minute slot in front of thousands of surfing spectators at Merewether beach in New South Wales. FLUID X - VIBRATION DAMPENING SYSTEM Fluid X was born from the ski and snowboard industry. It made sense to look toward progressive snowsports technology to provide state of the art dampening control to reduce vibration and create a clean and smooth feel throughout all our high performance boards. Fluid X also provides an anti-torsion property that runs from tip to tail and it’s visco-elastic stringer improves the dynamic behavior of the core construction that allows more flex, more response and the smoothest feel unlike anything you’ve experienced on a kite surfboard. With Fluid X, we finally managed to give our boards a Polyester feel with the durability of an epoxy lay up. http://ride.slingshotsports.com/kiteboarding/surf
There is a reason that Maui has become the mecca for all things kiteboarding. From the tricks and videos that we have all come to love, to the legends that created them and shaped the way we all look at kiteboarding. Its the birth place and a right of passage for our beloved sport. This year Slingshot came full circle and sent us to where it all began, with one of the people who started it all. Maui offers up a medley of some of the best conditions that the world can offer. Ranging from world-class waves, to perfect kickers, and butter flat water, its a true kiteboarding marvel. We took full advantage of all Maui had to offer and had fun every step of the way. With new teammates, new filmers, and new friends it was one hell of a trip. To tease you with what we did this year, heres a look back to what we did last year.
